Alice: Hey look! The moon is out! Dill: Its daytime! The moon shouldn't be out. Alice: Something is wrong! The moon snuck int o the sky during the day! Petey: No, wait, see, it's because the moo- Dill: What if it's really nighttime? Alice: You mean...? Dill: Yes! It's nighttime and the sun snuck into the sky! Alice: No! Alice: No wonder I'm tired and cranky! I'm going inside! Dill: Me too! Petey: But, no, see, the moon goes around the earth... and... um... Petey: I hate being the voice of reason. Dad: Huh? Mom: Alice? Why are you taking a nap?

I had a friend become furious with me because I told him I could tell which direction we were traveling by looking at the moon.

You might recall the story of Cassandra, to whom the God Apollo gave the gift of prophecy as a way to woo her; but when she spurned him he added a provision that nobody would believe her. Sometimes I wonder if something similar didn’t happen between me and the wisdom goddess Athena.
