Joe, there is a difference between helping and doing it. One of the reasons kids ask their parents is for just a sense of orientation and - believe it or not - just to know that their parents know something. It’s reasuring. Another reason - and I have lots of experience with this one - is to simply make sure they understand the assignment. More often than you’d like to think, they come home with an assignment they’re not clear about. They are kids, after all. And sometimes the directions are clear as mud.
I’m against parents doing the homework for the kids, but I’m all for parents being involved in it – and all the evidence shows that when parents are involved as resources, the kids not only do better gradewise but actually understand the material better.
cdward: I agree with you 100%. It’s just a better experience for the child if the parent is there to support and steer them in the right direction. Plus, having a sense of humor is key in raising children… especially when the report is due the next day, and it’s been in the backpack the past two weeks.

Never use a sentence if a paragraph will do.
