Maybe Pete could put those 20 bucks into his next tax declaration – “Emergency money to avoid a tantrum of my not yet teenage boy”?

Any parent at the IRS will understand.

When I was a kid and saw a toy I liked I’d ask “Do I have to buy it with my own money?” (allowance or birthday money or whatever) If the answer was yes I usually didn’t buy it. It’s easy to spend other people’s money but hard to spend your own. Ask any politician.

The response from my dad would have been, “time for you to go out and mow some yards or wash some cars…”

A straight forward answer…..

My sister used to do that! She’d ask Dad for money to go to the movies and he’d say, you’re getting an allowance, and she’d say I’m saving that!, and he’d say well, that’s good and give her money for the movies. Never worked for me. (btw… at that time a $1 would get us into the movie AND buy popcorn)

This is how the 1% operate (the kid, not the dad).

This is why you declare him as a dependent. Tell him he has already used up his tax credit for the year.

Then in that case son the answer is no.
