Sad to say, but if you look at what Bush and the GOP did in the last 8 years, you would see that the only people they treated worse then our fighting men and women were our children.
They sent our men and women off to unneccesary wars without the material and equipment they needed, sent them back time and time again, while cutting veterans benefits, the Veterans Administration budgets, putting our wounded in hosipitals that were rat infested, provided no help when they started to lose their houses due to their service, provided no help for their families with the problems that the wars caused them, while also destroying our education system, and cutting health care for children.
For the love of whatever you care about most, can we not let the comments on this degenerate to a school yard level. Just once can we just be respectful.
I think this is more a mention of the fact that veteran costs these days are more spread out – noting that one family lost a father and another lost a mother. The only way this could have been more true would be if there was a third same-sex family which experienced a loss, because that’s happening, too.
Ken, the worst thing Dick Cheney said was how he tears up flying over Arlington and seeing the rows of crosses! There are NO row of crosses! Everything is a headstone!
Ignoring the “politics” for the moment- thanks, Dana– I’ve lost friends of both sexes in Afghanistan and Iraq- Memorial Day is about them- all of them- in all of our wars- whatever the “cause”.
This army wife would appreciate it if readers applied the concept of “a moment of silence” to cartoons of this nature. I’ll check back later to see if Fred Phelps has added his homophobic 2 cents to the many other tacky rants posted here.

Well said, Ken.
My dream: a President who goes to war will stand up on Memorial Day and first honor the men and women who have gone to war for their country, AND THEN apologize to all these men and women for leadership’s failure to see preventive options in a timely way, for the failure to address festering sores before they boil over and leave fewer options, for the failure to understand and effectively deal with the strife between peoples and nations.
We have people with the skills to facilitate the peaceful resolution of conflict; we just don’t value them much, or use them.
Your insipid twisted little myopic rants are not what most veterans or their families really want to hear around Memorial day.
If you really care so much about veterans, why don’t you spend 1 sentence thanking them or better yet helping out their family when the parent is away in combat?
You know the Sledge Sisters song helps us understand what life is about:
“We are family
I got all my sisters with me
We are family
Get up ev’rybody and sing
Ev’ryone can see we’re together
As we walk on by
(FLY!) and we fly just like birds of a feather
I won’t tell no lie
(ALL!) all of the people around us they say
Can they be that close
Just let me state for the record
We’re giving love in a family dose.
Living life is fun and we’ve just begun
To get our share of the world’s delights
(HIGH!) high hopes we have for the future
And our goal’s in sight
(WE!) no we don’t get depressed
Here’s what we call our golden rule
Have faith in you and the things you do
You won’t go wrong
This is our family Jewel.”
“Take only those losses that are unavoidable, if you can’t smart your way out of it. Soldiers are entitled to leaders who can usually smart their way out of it.”

Who controlled Congress (where the budget is made and laws passed) during this time?
Go back and read the Constitution - we need no more “Imperial Presidents” (Bush/Clinton/Bush/Obama) and some Congressional responsibility.
Gracias,

Dale, he must have had “other priorities” than actually looking at gravestones…
