Literally no one is suggesting socialism, by any definition (see below).
What they are suggesting is social programs to help everyone (yes, you included!) by trying to eliminate the problems that hold back and rot or country from within.
The republican definition of socialism is a right wing boogyman, pushed by dictators and state television onto people far, far to ignorant to recognize the outright lies they are hearing.
This is the Red Scare from the 30’s to 60’s, the Satanism of the 80’s, the terrorists are everywhere of the 2000’s, the caravans of rapists from Mexico of the trump term. All lies, all meant to keep sheep too scared to question what they are told.
Definition of socialism1: any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods2a: a system of society or group living in which there is no private propertyb: a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state3: a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done
