Thar be only one sound on olde telephones. An’ ONLY sound… No pichurs for ye, or games, or words wi’ friends. An’ it were anchored to th’ wall, an’ ye couldn’t take it out o’ th’ room, let ‘lone th’ house. An’ ye didn’t have buttons on ‘em. Ye had to stick yer sausagey fingers in holes in a wheel an’ move th’ wheel ‘til ye hit a piece o’ metal…
Yep, good ol’ rotary phones. Rabbit ear TV antennas. No microwave ovens. Wringers on washing machines and to dry the clothes you hung them outside in the sunshine on a clothes line with things called clothes pegs. As kids we climbed trees, jumped off the porch or garage roof and ran barefoot through the woods (GASP). In the summer we played outside all day in the sun (without sunscreen) and didn’t come back until we were called in for dinner or until the street lights came on, whichever came first. We didn’t have a color TV until 1970. The horror of it all.
@Thiser and @Knightman – yep that was my family – we did finally get a microwave when I think I was 10 or so but we didn’t get popcorn until much later (we still had an air popper!)
Yeah and three networks, NBC, ABC and CBS! And some places, PBS. And the network shows were generally followed at the end of the credits: Televisions Seal of Approval because the shows were wholesome entertainment, not xrated garbage like today.

You had to tune up a car every 10,000 miles. And they were worn out at about 70,000 miles.

You actually had to play outside with friends and use your imagination instead of playing inside with video games oh gasp!

you had to move OFF the couch to turn the knobs on the T.V. just to change the channel and/or move the volume

When I first made phone calls there was a voice that said “number please”. Way easier than dialing.
