It is late at night, and I have never heard of “tagback,” although I get the context of dropping a coin (cheapskate!) in the collection basket. What has me completely bamfoozled, however, is that Burl is (1) giving anything at all and (2) it’s a bill.Good morning to all my friends in Crustwood.Susan, I’m sure you’ll know about this.

Good morning, Crustwoodians. I don’t understand ‘tagback’, I just know it has something to do with Burl being even more of a horrid cheapskate than I thought. :sigh*:* It shouldn’t surprise me, though.

    Good morning Crustwoodians!

Nice to see you back…. um…. “Pat McGroin”….

…..And no…. well, not till after… er…. at least dinner and a movie.

Mikie, you have such faith!I was going to say the same as you about Burl putting in folding green.

    Could it be play money?

But as for tagbacks, the only one I remember doesn’t seem to fit this situation.

So I Googled it — and it’s the only use I found online.

It was from playing Tag. When I was a kid, we argued over the “right” way to play.

In my Ohio neighborhood, “It” was “It” till everyone was found, or till he or she gave up and yelled “All-ee All-ee IN Free!”

The last person tagged or reaching “home” became It.

But my cousins, and they were in Illinois, like Burl, played that “It” tagged someone, and then quickly ran “home” and was safe, while the tagged person immediately became “It”.

A bratty cousin could easily re-tag a slow runner (like me….sniffle) and run Home first…. UNLESS “It” shouted “Tag!! No tag-backs!”

Or you could play the whole game “no Tag-backs” from the beginning.

So… after all that…. what does it have to do with the collection plate?

Is that Burl’s way of saying you can’t put in money and take it right out again?

Meanwhile, I had to magnify the comic more than the image allows to find that bell.

And….meanwhile…..Dry, your new avatar is adorable….

And GymShoe — hope you’re OK. Haven’t seen you for days.

I have no idea what ‘tag back’ means in this situation either, but I think I agree with purple sky’s assessment.

I think it might be a miss-spelling of “no TAKEbacks”. Looks like he’s taking OUT instead of putting IN.

I couldn’t even find it in Urban Dictionary. Susan, I also recall that in the game of tag, we couldn’t tag back the person who tagged us…too easy. I have a feeling it’s when a guy dips his money in the plate then surreptitiously pulls it back out, or part of it. The highlights (what are they actually called) around his hand with the money in it suggest that. It’s not stealing from the plate, just hypocrisy.

Susan, time to write Julie another note!! Please?

agree that Burl might be suspect of just pretending to drop that bill. @ Susan, I did not see Dry’s avatar or comment. @ Pat, I use elegant stemware in a color to coordinate with my outfit (yesterday =blue) and I make the ice only with purified water so it adds no taste. Whether his pretense is called a “tagback” I have no idea. @Ray, why should Susan write a note?

sue-sunshine.. good post.. took me back.. N-side Chicago.. that’s the way we played it… we too were a bit baffled by the tagback thing, reason for checking comments… tagback=takeback makes sense…

Burl is either going to going to do 2 religious things with that greenback:1. The “Palm Sunday” move…which is dropping the bill in whilst removing one…or…2. The “Passover” move which is seemingly dropping the bill in while moving the basket…a misdirection move..Or he’ll simply drop the bill in and pull out 3 quarters (the NFL move).

just noticed that GoComics has apparently wiped out the entire Dinette Set archive prior to mid-May 2011. WTF?!

I the light of day, I see that the man Burl is addressing appears to be taking a coin out of the plate, ‘making change’, as it were.

@ Ray, it WAS Susan who wrote about the size, but I doubt that Julie wants to explain a single cartoon; Since they are not playing tag, and Burl’s cheapness is legendary, perhaps he wants to be the only one to takeback a faux donation, so the tray is still relatively full.

@Pat. the only time I might do that is a hot night in the pool and it doesn’t matter what color. When the pool light needed replacement I found a fairly inexpensive one with color cycling- lovely for swimming laps ;-)

Not sure what tagback means, but I’m not so sure the bill in Burl’s hand might not be Monopoly money.

Though a lifelong Illinoiance, I am as baffled as the rest about the “tagback” here. And although Julie should not have to explain her work, I’d sure appreciate her input here.

Many times, words or phrases can have many meanings. I just watched last night’s “Watch What Happens” on Bravo and the poll question was “with which of the R candidates would you BUST it?” I imagine something sexual is indicated (so none as there is only one man for me), but a dinner conversation or a dance is possible. And Pat, here in Phoenix HOT only means well over 100 F in daily temperature ;-)
