Oh, Sophie, you are so right! I swear, if one more student brings in a wolf spider they found in their house to see if, as a science teacher, I “want it”, I’m going to scream.
Killed one yesterday in my bathroom. Most spiders are fragile, but I had to whack that sucker multiple times with a toilet brush. Interesting how small they curl up to once their hydraulic systems get breached.
My cousin found ten wolf spiders on her bedroom wall. She ca,mly gathered them up and got them out of her room. I’d be tearing the bedding off the bed to make sure more weren’t in there.
My cat and dog both destroy any moving bug/arachnid they find in my house so I don’t worry about them much. Plus, I have more bugs than spiders and the spiders run from me so I don’t mind their presence.
Wolf spiders can bite, and they can cause a reaction if you happen to be allergic to their venom, but otherwise they’re harmless and quite beneficial. I’ve never been bitten by one, nor known anyone who was.
I’m fine with bugs outdoors unless they bite me (usually just fire ants). I will take any bees hornets that I find indoors to the garden but the roaches or other that come in from garage get a spray with any handy cleaning product until incapacitated (extoskin) and squashed! I lived many years with a wasp nest between storm and inside window in my bedroom- the good polinators only attact when they think they are assulted.
I’ve always been a little freaked out by spiders but I try not to destroy them (like I did years ago.) If I can, I catch them in a jar or something and put them back outside. Still creeps me out a bit, though.
The last wolf spider I caught in a glass jar almost crawled of out the darn thing before I got to the window! He was HUGE!!!They don’t stay in the corners, they boldly cross the floor and chase you. And they no longer listen when you yell at them! A stomping foot just makes them charge! Arrggghhh!!!.I heard that horse chestnuts help keep them away.

SHUDDER! There was a wolf spider crawling around in my bathtub yesterday. Even my “fearless” spider hunter kitty was scared of it.

Spiders don’t bother me. They are beneficial as a rule unless they are poisonous. I’m not familiar with a wolf spider, but the name sounds cool!

Wolf spiders are clever, always moving closer to the source of food and warmth. Consider them seasonal tourists.

I don’t think so. There are actual jumping spiders. Thing I get nervous about with wolf spiders is that they can run faster than I can!

Oh!!! I just recalled that when the weather turned cool in Autumn, there would sometimes be 5 or 6 on our front door wanting to get in—eeeekk!
