And the bird probably bought the candy corn on Thanksgiving Day because Walmart is open that day and doesn’t value their employees enough to stay closed for the holiday. The Walton family, CEO, etc. will probably be at home with their families. The employees and their families don’t matter. There are some stores, even national stores, that are closed that day. I wish ALL stores would go back to being closed ALL day on Thanksgiving Day. And that means not opening at 5:00 or 6:00 p.m. that day and not opening until early Friday morning. Not everyone has their dinner at noon or in the afternoon. Some have their dinner in the evening. BRING BACK OUR HOLIDAY!
And shut down the power plants. Those people need a break. There are plenty of 24/7 operations that don’t get a day off unless your shift happens to hit it right.
Im working today.I am an in home care provider. If i don’t go in to work today the client i am assigned to won’t get a bath and won’t get transferred into his wheelchair. He would spend the whole of Thanksgiving in bed.I have a better idea than just shutting everything down.Ask the employees. If you want to stay home, thats fine.If you want to work and garner some holiday pay, that is also fine. The only time a problem arises is when someone in retail sales is forced to work. And, yes, i understand that happens.Enjoy what you have, people. Things could be worse.
Walmart is closed until 6:00 tonight so families can enjoy their Thanksgiving. They are open at 6:00 to satisfy all the needy shoppers and, yes, keep up with the competition. I love the phrase “fertile shelves of Walmart”. And I like candy corn.
I have worked for a medical center for decades. When I was much younger I always signed up for, or traded to work on Thanks giving, Christmas and New Years because I needed the money and my family could celebrate on an alternate day. With the extra time and a half pay, we could afford to celebrate. I’ve never seen the need to do it on a specific day. Of course my dad was a fire chief and he always worked the holidays to let his staff have some time off.
People that work rotating shift for utility companies, hospitals and other needed services deserve a holiday. That is why the employers do their best to let them work only 8 hours so everyone can have some time with family.
They also have a spread for everyone working, just in case someone had no one to be with.
Let me know if you want to hear about my infamous “Candy Corn Incident,” told in many a comment section here on GoComics. Trigger warning: kind of gross.

You know before ol’ Bob got me worked up my intended comment was ‘I love candy corn!’ (and no I am off today and not doing this from work!)
