Andy: Joanie, what are you trying to ask me-- whether I love you? If you are, the answer's yes... Joanie: Oh... no, Andy, I"m trying to pin you down... I... Andy: But, Joanie, there's something you have to know... I guess I should have told you a while ago... Joanie: You're married, aren't you? Andy: No, Joanie, I'm gay. Joanie: Well, what's wrong with that? I"m usually cheerful, too! Andy: No, I mean... Joanie: Oh, my god...
Being gay might be “no problem” in the comics now, “no problem” in real life, to the current generations… or to me….
But it will always be a big deal to the one who fell for someone of incompatible orientation.
Joanie’s sorrowful “Oh my God” is about her own heart, and probably some embarrassment at not realising sooner…. but NOT about his revelation in societal or moral terms.
