He knows she had a daughter, it’s the “Junior” that throws him for a loop. So hello, JJ. (I still have a copy of life magazine with the cover of her and Mike’s wedding.!!)

Wow. This is the first time I’ve ever seen ‘JJ’ before she was an artist divorced from Mike Doonesbury and living with the man her own daughter called a jerk. I never even knew what ‘JJ’ meant. So I’m glad this comic is in ‘reruns’….

why can’t we get current strips instead of this old, tired stuff?

Doonesbury’s syndicate, Universal Uclick, announced on May 29, 2013, that the comic strip would go on hiatus from June 10 to Labor Day of that year while Garry Trudeau worked on his streaming video comedy Alpha House, which was picked up by Amazon Studios.6 “Doonesbury Flashbacks” were offered during those weeks, but due to the unusually long hiatus, some newspapers opted to run different comic strips instead.7 Sunday strips returned as scheduled, but the daily strip’s hiatus was extended until November 2013.8 After Alpha House was retained for a second series in February 2014, Trudeau announced that he would now only produce Sunday strips for the foreseeable future.9 From March 3, 2014, the strip offers reruns starting from the very beginning of its history as opposed to the recent ones that re-run when Trudeau is on vacation.

Aside from reading great comics, what are you/we doing that Trudeau is not?
I’m a conservative with an operational brain. I realize that’s optional, despite leanings.

@bawanaWhen you’ve produced 40 years of high quality work, won a Pulitzer, a Broadway musical and created a TV show for which you are currently writing every episode, then you can call Trudeau a slacker. If anything, he is the opposite of slacker.

J.J. changed the most over the years (well, a few characters went from live to dead so I suppose THEY changed the most…….) Her changes were all for the worst, unfortunately. (Of course Kim is a great character, so Mike lucked out.) Zonker, of course, changed the least.

Unlike that industrious conservative, what’s-er-name, Sarah somebody (rather, nobody). You all are responding to trolls as if they cared about an answer.

Trudeau is 66 years old, and has been drawing Doonesbury for publication since its 1970 syndication — 44 years ago. After one has done the same work for 44 years and has reached the mid-60s, I think it’s OK if they start to “back away slowly.”.I’ve been “semi-retired” since a cerebellar hemorrhagic stroke several years ago left me unable to work full time, and am looking forward to dropping the “semi” from my job description next year — even though I’m a couple of years younger than Trudeau..I’d love it if he were to still be drawing Doonesbury when I’m 80 years old — but I’m not expecting it.

So that’s what JJ looked like when young. Love the ‘old man’ jab. Because, after all mom (Joanie) wouldn’t just go for anyone. Not after ditching the husband.

For your information, GT is busy devoting his time to writing episodes for a TV show, so he is still busy & productive, which is more than I can say for the Republicans in Congress who do their best to avoid accomplishing anything!

It’s only with this cartoon that it finally sunk in:
Jeff and JJ are half-siblings.
