Joanie: Rick, I'm afraid we're going to have to come up with a new date. Rick: How come? Joanie: Lacey reminded me of a conflict. Rick: What's that? Joanie: Prince Charles is getting married on the same day. Rick: So? Joanie: So I'd rather our guests weren't all in the den watching TV. Rick: I dunno. That might take some of the pressure off.

Just tell the guests, your marriage is probably going to be more successful than Chuck’s and Di’s.

Chuck and Di did want to marry each other. It wasn’t the first millionth marriage to go south, is all.

Why are Americans so concerned about the private lives of British monarchs ?. Never could figure that out.

I’m a guy who is a total Anglophile – I love anything and everything English. That being said, I could never get the concept of royalty – a “royal” family or “royal” blood or any of that. It seems totally anachronistic like it’s a relic from the Dark Ages.

I remember the Charles/Diana marriage, and one thing that really struck me at the time was that I couldn’t believe that so many people were willing to get up in the middle of the night to watch two people they didn’t know get married. Different time zone, with a six- to eight-hour difference depending on where in the US you were.So unless Rick and Joannie are planning a 3 am wedding, there’s no problem.

Wasn’t Camilla already married at the time Charles married Diana? And are Charles and Camilla still together? I thought they were on the outs, too?

I may be one of the few Americans who dislikes Downton Abbey because I loathe the whole British aristocracy thing. Any system that allow someone to be called “milord” just because he was lucky enough to be born to a particular family should have been sent to the ash heap of history a long time ago.

Do you reaize that if they had named their first child Upton they could have signed their Christmas cards Up, Chuck, and Di?

A Prince Chuck reference! I always felt badly, on a personal level, for all involved in that fiasco; Chuck, Di, Camilla, William, Harry, and on and on. No one got what they wanted and the kids didn’t get the family and the love they deserved. A lose – lose.On the lighter side, since Chuck has become something of an eco-activist, when he goes on one of his eco-campaigns I refer to him as “Ground Chuck.”
