Actually, they do. Lots of formal and semi-formal pants have two clasps or buttons on the inside. You can undo one to make more room without everything falling off.

Are rubber chicken banquets that fattening? I avoid them when possible because I don’t like uncomfortable clothes. Now, in my dottage, I have finally trained everybody not to invite me.

Dickies used to have a stitch that could be removed to make the waist larger. Then they figured out they’d rather sell a second pair instead of serving their customers. Haven’t seen the expandable type in years.
