Superbowl sound bites we'd most like to hear.... Athlete 1: Teachers should be the highest paid people on the planet! Athlete 2: There is no "I" in "Team"... Athlete 3: Personally, I wish we'd all practice random acts of kindness. Athlete 4: We're not heroes... these are heroes

They would be if the networks could figure out a way to make money off of them!

There may not be an “I” in team but there is in interview. And those interviews might actually be worth something if more players would remember that. I don’t see any point in listening to anyone fire off the standard canned PR response.

People get paid in relation to the number of people interested in their services divided by the number of people performing that service multiplied by the level of need for that service. Sports players and actors get paid a lot because there are a lot of people chipping in a few bucks to watch and only a few players getting paid. Teachers have just as big an audience, however there are somewhere between 3 Million and 7 Million teachers sharing the pie. Even if we had the same level of interest in teachers that we have in sports players, that will never result in high pay per teacher.

In extreme cases, the phrase gets turned around: “there is no ‘team’ in ‘I’.”
