Whenever suppliers would ask me to go to dinner or lunch, they would always suggest Sushi. (I am 1/2 Japanese) I don’t object, but I think it is funny they do this, and yes, I realize they are trying to be gracious hosts.
Whenever our customers from Brazil would be here in the US, I would ask them what they would like to have. THEY always say Brazillian BBQ (Churrasco) and I am happy to take them there, but it intriques me. They never want to try some “exotic food” for them, just something they are familiar with.
If left to me, I usually try to find something exotic, different, or from the culture I am visiting. (Although moose and whale in Norway was not something I ever want to repeat).
How about you? Something local and diferent when you visit, or something familiar?
