As a religious person myself, I’m half and half on this problem. On one side, I can see Abby’s stance in wanting to ensure her son stays involved in all aspects of it…but at the same time, I can see Colin’s side too, and know that trying to force someone into it is only going to be more likely to drive them away from the religion altogether in the end.
Personally, I’ve found it’s better to leave the choice up to them where possible, even if it means allowing them to make the choice you didn’t desire. Better to present yourself as the caring good example that trusts your kid than as the mean dictator trying to force them into something they didn’t choose to pursue.
