YepâŠ. but since about 20 years ago, in Calfornia, you canât discriminate in pricing services.
Things like dry cleaning, haircuts, and laundry have to cost the same for both (or all) genders.
Â
Some places use a bit of semantic trickery⊠you can charge more for cleaning, say, a âblouseâ than a shirtâŠ
but the customer can insist that her garment is a shirt.
The excuse used to be that womenâs clothing had more detail⊠but now everybody, equally, pays extra for pleats or ruffles.
I canât charge extra for a womanâs haircut⊠but legally, I could charge extra for the blow dry that more women want than men.
And you can still have a businessmanâs or businesswomanâs lunch on the menu⊠as long as any customer can feel free to order either.
A funny view of our culture that not many men would want to order something called âLadyâs tea.â
I told the nice owner of a local Mom ân Pop cafe that I didnât want to order something called âThe Hungry Farmhandâs Breakfastâ âŠ
So he changed it to something generic⊠I think the âBreakfast Specialâ ⊠and he later thanked me.
He said he sold twice as many that way
