For Better or For Worse by Lynn Johnston for April 29, 2004
Transcript:
April: Moira was gonna ell you she fired Kortney while you were in Mexico, but she didn't wanna spoil your holiday. Elly: Thanks. April: We learned some other stuff, too, Mom. We called the police when we found out the cheques were forged, an' they'd done some research. Remember when the trains were stolen from the front showcase while Kortney was cleaning it? Well, one of the guys they arrested had been going out with her... Elly: She helped commit a robbery Right under my nose? Woman: Here. Whonkkkk!

I’m sorry but it’s hard to feel bad for you Elly. This is stuff that they’ve been trying to tell you for months but you refused to believe it.

We are also getting the “hindsight” version – we can see what’s going on. In the thick of it, the situation was easier to set aside. Unfortunately, Elly did have people, April included, telling her about Kortney – I don’t know if it’s generational, but I know my mother would not have believed me right away at that age – the benefit of the doubt would have gone to the adult. Not that it’s a correct decision, just a thought.
I think we can judge someone when we can see what’s going on clearly and they can’t – it’s never easy to see the whole story when you trust someone and think you know them.
