For Better or For Worse by Lynn Johnston for August 21, 2008
Transcript:
Elizabeth: Don't be nervous, don't be nervous, calm... be calm... John: Hi, honey! Are you nervous? The bride and F.O.B are here, bridesmaids, here, flowergirls and ringbearer - Robin: When can I have the ring? Elizabeth: Not until the procession starts, Robin. We don't want you to lose it. So, for now, it's safely in your grandfather's pocket. John: Aaahhhh!!? Just kidding!!

Every Wedding has a kidder. I was the ring bearer 20 years ago at my “mothers” wedding with my “step-dad”.
It was fun but was outside, so we had some interesting photos.

I will miss this family when you retire. But when you do I wish you the very best of everything, including good health.

“Retire”? Obviously you haven’t heard the new-new-new-revised plan for this strip. This is from “The Daily Cartoonist”:
“Universal Press is apparently working hard to get the word out to editors regarding the For Better or For Worse transition from new material to “new-runs” material. After last years transition to the “hybrid” that left both editors and readers scratching their heads, they have good reason to make sure everyone is prepared. … As the syndicate battles to maintain as many of Lynn Johnston’s slots as it can, the new definition is an attempt to convince editors that For Better or For Worse is indeed “new” (not just redrawn re-runs) and as such it shouldn’t be dropped (or question the price that it is being asked to pay for essentially re-runs). The question will be whether editors will see it for what it is - a recycled product with a “NEW” label slapped on it.”
Please retire, Lynn. You ain’t Schulz – and “Classic” Peanuts Reruns shouldn’t be taking up space in papers either.

WickedCrazy was right! I thought it was going to be something more dramatic. Hmmm…I wonder if John will give free dental care to all these friends of the family who did soooo much of this wedding for free?
converses over 16 years ago
why would john provide free dental care to any of them? he’s a RETIRED dentist - just like lynn should soon be a retired cartoonist. and summerdog, why would you charge friends money for being friends? you’re implying that were it not for him being able to do dental work, he’d be giving a check (cheque for our Canadian friends) to everyone who remotely helped with the wedding? come on, get real. what are friends for? to get paid every 2 weeks by all other friends?

Retire? Namenamename, shame shame! And Converses too. I happen to love the strip. If you are bored with it why read it?

well, lynn has hit a bit of a dead end. sigh to have more strips where the characters never age. they just do NEW stuff all the time, and remain the same age. lynn could at least do something like bill amend does. last year, he started with sunday-only strips. he had a terrific strip with virtually immortal characters, and decided to semi-retire. come on lynn! Oh, and thanks, bluetopazcrystal. I needed someone to tell me that if I’m tired with the strip to just not read it anymore - like I couldn’t figure that one out for myself. (sarcasm!) FYI, I will quit reading it after Aug. 31, when she was supposed to be DONE with it! I used to love the strip, but as Lynn has shown with the whole wedding - she has lost her creativity and just has to drag stuff out for needlessly long periods of time. To think that for the next week and a half, she is going to bounce between the retro strips and Liz’s wedding….come ON! I think she should just retire at the end of Aug. as she originally planned.

what is Liz’s bridesmaid doing in the last pic? Is she going to ‘cuff’ John upside the head for scaring them all 1/2 to death?
This panel needs to be made a Legend (I’m glad I saved it to my HDD)

I could see my grandfather doing that at my wedding.

I always threatened to do a version of Rowan Atkinson’s Father of the Bride speech at my daughter’s wedding.

Why are there so many complaints about this wedding being too long? I’ve enjoyed this arc a lot. I just don’t get it
