I don’t own a dog, but I study animal behavior enough to know that a dog barks for at least two reasons:A/ To communicate something or announce the presense of an “object of interest”, or B/ They have been tied up or locked up alone and they bark for attention.
Farley could be doing both. He may be barking at the scent of a cat on the other side of the fence. But by the seventh panel, he may be barking because he loves to watch Ellie’s reaction.
Same with my cat. He’s trained me to come running at the sound of scratching- because he KNOWS that I think he’s really wrecking the furniture. You should see the smug look on his face when I discover once again that he is bluffing! Just his paw up on the couch is enough to make me go to him now. I know when I’m being summoned!!!
