hippogriff: from yesterday. It used to be true that airliner cargo compartments were not pressurized. That is not always the case any more. And besides, if they were not pressurized, no animal would survive above about 15,000 feet. Planes that do not pressurize their cargo compartment do not accept live cargo.

“Rap”? Phil really needs to leave that dumb ’70s hippie jargon behind and move into (his) current decade . . . please!

Jan: Quite true, I was trying to back-date to the setting. Nowadays they fly at 30-33,000 feet. I have a model I did of a Trans-Canada Airways (now Air Canada) Lancastrian, still in WW-II colours. This was an airliner coversion of an Avro Lancaster bomber. With four Rolls Royce Merlin engines, cotton was standard issue to protect ears. The setting is a bit later, but it was pre-Fat Albert (747s)
