getting? giving? i thought it was about some self-proclaimed son of god who was gonna Save theWorld/european clone of a east-mediterranean religion….or something. where’d the fat Macy’s midget in a red suit fit into the bible at?
“By listing their names, I was able to say ‘hello’ to a number of dear friends in this strip. When it appeared in the paper, I looked forward to their inevitable calls. So often my friends would say, ’you’d better not put me in the paper!’ But when I did, they were always thrilled.”
Just the way things were done before Facebook. Even then, many of our “friends” weren’t. And maybe that’s too cynical a view to ask you not to be so cynical, so I won’t. Have a Merry Christmas instead!
And to those of you who believe the fantasies-without-evidence denials of Christianity, did it ever occur to you that God knows when nature-worshippers party and could control His Son’s birth to match? Or that the pagan revelries came about from early civilizations rejection of God? For my part, I’d rather believe the witnesses who have never been proven wrong. Merry CHRISTmas!
Ellie is just being practical, but the kids don’t understand what it is like to send out Christmas cards to people who may not want them. Ellie would never forget her own family though.
Cards are not practical now with the price of stamps. I used to send over 50 to all the cousins who I no longer even knew what they looked like (and spent hours writing individual greetings). Now everyone is on Facebook, and I know which cousins are of which of the many aunts and uncles and what they look like AND I can even go to their page and see what they are doing. Every one of them can go to my page where I have an update at least 2-3 times a week or whenever I do anything different or read or hear about something I want to share. The post office is going the way of the buggy whip.
My friends and family move enough that if I don’t get a response from my holiday card, I remove them from my list until I hear from them so that I’m not sending to the wrong address. List editing isn’t necessarily spiteful in any way.

@dfowensby: blasphemous.
“Alma”? Why do I have a feeling that’s an add-in to make this strip more hip and current? Not that I’m complaining.

What I wouldn’t give for just one year of people getting off their soapboxes about “the real meaning of christmas”.

is kind of selffish… what if she gets one and didn’t send one out… hurry and send one? or just forget it?
