Must still be the nicotine talking. (I’m 100% sure Georgia washed the dirt off the carrot, Phil.)

I’ve heard both. Part of the experience of smoking is having something in your hands, and smokers trying to quit miss that. It’s one of the reasons e-cigarettes are so popular – even after the smoker has weaned himself off of nicotine. It gives them the physical activity they crave almost as much as the nicotine.

Not to mention what smoking would do to his breath control.

my mom used Tootsie Roll pops and dum dum suckers to keep something in her hands. It was funny because she had them stuck all over the house. You sit in a chair and bam, there was a tootsie roll pop in the chair…….but she stopped smoking after 50+ years, pretty much cold turkey. No gum, no pills, just suckers. lol

Too bad e-cigarettes have been ruled to be just as unhealthy as the real thing. If you are considering quitting, don’t use them as a substitute for cigarettes. They were not made for that purpose. Maybe Phil needs to play his horn more. lol

Maybe he could take up doodling and keep a pencil in his hand while he’s trying to get used to not having a cigarette there anymore.

An unpeeled carrot may be healthy, if the dirt is washed off, but no way is it tasty. The outer skin is bitter, at least to me. My mom said carrots should be scraped, not peeled, but peeled is good enough for me!

Wait until he tries to light the carrot.

For one of my attempts to quit I sucked on a plastic “dummy” cigarette with a wad of menthol-soaked cotton inside for flavor. I sucked so hard I inhaled the cotton!

Hey, gmforde – Ecigs have been RULED to be harmful? By what credible organization? AMA is silent on the issue – were the issue not politically touchy they would endorse ecigs. Every doctor I’ve spoken to has recommended them over ‘real’ cigarettes. They inject nicotine in your body – but nicotine isn’t what causes lung (and other) diseases.Case in point: Switzerland (an EXTREMELY health conscious nation) does not collect taxes on ecigarettes to to encourage people to use them instead of tobacco.

I quit a 20 year tobacco habit with ecigs. much to my doctors delight.

I’m not saying ecigs are healthful – of course they’re not. But compared with tobacco smoking there’s no contest.

Anyway, were I you I’d do a little research before making broad statements.

Time to take a vacation to somewhere fresh and new or to some place you loved before you ever smoked. Break routine and you can more easily break the habit.
