Oh, she’s just excited and wants to share her excitement, Michael. No need for the melodrama. I can see your nose and a bit of your mouth in the third panel so you can definitely breathe. Maybe if you hug her back, that would show your support and she’d move on.
It is an incredibly amazing feeling you get when you are first published. Elly was lucky to have somebody handy to explode with! Whether it’s a drawing, a poem or an encyclopaedia, that acceptance validates all your efforts, and makes you feel several feet taller.
I went to a small college, where my father has been a professor for 24 years. No assistants, he grades every lab (chemistry) and paper himself. So did my History profs. I would hear other students complain about homework not being returned quickly, not realizing that Dad had to, for each lab, do every bit of math they did to know if their answers were correct (since each lab pair got slightly different results) and to show them where they went off. For papers he had to verify information from their research. Not to mention the safeguards for plagiarism. Our papers in History were commented on by the professors. Class size was 20-30 but they were teaching 18 contact hours, so had 5 other classes to do the same from. At least some of the homework is done on computer programs that give them the result now. Because on many assignments he would spend as much time grading each one as they spent on the writing of it (so not the time they spent doing the labs, while he’s running around fixing messes, but all the time they are doing the resulting calculations). He’s just a bit better at doing the math (such ass knowing the mass of the unknown in the solution isn’t going to be a negative number!)

What? No snarky comments accusing Elly of child abuse?
