That’s right, one fielder has a whole lot of field to cover in a park.

They’re expecting cars and house windows to stop the ball? Oh, good grief.

When I was a kid, we used to play ball in the street all the time. Of course that was over 50 years ago. I thought kids today just joined some organized group.

WHAT?!? you’d let the kids WALK DOWN THE STREET?! alone?? to a park out of your sight?? you should be arrested and the kids taken away just for allowing them out the door by themselves! ;D Dang, I miss being a kid back in the 60’s.

A car going too fast will certainly stop the ball. Of course, it will also stop Michael and his friends, by giving them a trip to the hospital.

We played football on the street(cars were great for losing defenders) but never baseball, adults would throttle you if a ball went in their yard!we had a re-bar plant behind us with lots of space to play ball, but it was all concrete,so a lot of time was spent running down the ball.Torn pants and shirts, scraped knees and elbows could be expected of course.

I used to play baseball with my buddies in a vacant lot during the early Seventies. Geez, sometimes we’d play all day in the summer. I learned how to hit up the middle because if I pulled the ball to right field, I’d hit the Wieland’s house and if I went the other way, I’d hit the Woods’ house. Mrs. Woods wasn’t shy about coming out and breaking up the game because two of her sons were playing among the rocks, weeds and dirt with the rest of us. When John and Charlie had to come inside, the game was suspended.

We played Kick the Can in the street in the 40s. Fun times.
