The question of when to stop nursing was settled for me when the kids started teething. One good chomp and I was singing the praises of a plastic bottle.
The only thing I know is most women I know that have had children went back to work in 6-12 weeks not 6 months. Why would a employer keep your job for 6 months?

Time to make sure the breast pumps are working. Maybe get a second set in case of breakdown.
