Jason: Ever wonder what cartoonists do when they get sick? Peter: Not really. Why? Jason: Well, it's not like they can just suspend their deadlines until they feel better. Peter: I'm sure they have a stash of unused jokes set aside to use in a pinch. Jason: I guess, so long as they keep it updated... Peter: Hee hee. Did you hear what Dan Quayle said on "Carson" last night?
The punchline is obvious, but for those of you wondering about the details (and not feeling like wasting time googling things):
Dan Quayle was the VP of the United States between 1989 and 1993.“Carson” was The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, which aired between 1962 and 1992.
And the strip came out in 2006, natch.
