Andy: Cute.
Peter: For the record, when we suggested family game night, we meant playing "Call of Duty,"
Jason: If I have a blank tile, can I use it as a bazooka?
Andie and Roger must be as old as I am, if they think boardgames are still fun. There’s something about handling the pieces and the players actually controlling the progress of the game, instead of a machine doing everything but making your decisions.
Don’t get me wrong. Computer games and boardgames each have their qualities.
Hugh B. Hayve said: ‘I have to agree with the boys on game selection, you can’t ring up much of a body count playing an old board game.’ ,Then you have never played board games with my husbands family.
There are plenty of great board games out there the boys would like better than the old stand-byes of Scrabble and Monopoly. Things like Dominion, Galaxy Trucker, Dungeon Lords, Robo Rally, Zombies!!! and more are family favorites in our house, and can all be looked into at www.boardgamegeek.com :)
I think Scabble is still a great way to spend time. I play it online, on Facebook and with real, live friends. For some reason my husband won’t play it with me anymore, though. Apparently I win too much. (I’m a little obsessed - I actually have a tattoo with my children’s names spelled out in Scrabble tiles with their dates of birth as the score.)
Scrabble was never a favorite for my family, not when I was a child or now that I’m approaching my 3rd childhood. Monopoly, Sorry and that type were popular, as well as cards (Rummy, Euchre, Rook) and dominoes. Still play Turkey Bones but also like Steve Jackson games.
I like board games all right, but our house is so cluttered right now that playing them would not be easy. So, my DS and my copies of Pokémon Black and White are a more viable option until we move.

Our Mother Hates Seeing Childeren Having Fun
I’m assuming that jason’s idea of having fun is destroying the tiles on the board cause he’s bored.

They would rather play video games.
Who’d a thunk it?

I loved playing board games in the pre-video game era. Part of me still does.

Whoever did “children” most likely got the bingo bonus. :)

This rings all too true - although we can get them to play a family board game occasionally. Their favorite is Apples To Apples.

Two years ago I was excited to bring home the “New” Scrabble board. The family has never removed the plastic. Got to cancel that 210 channel cable.

There is no video game that can beat chess.

My 12 year old son and I played scrabble on my computer last night - the best of old board games and computer games.

The fun of board games is the camaradarie around the game - which does not happen with video games.

If I remember right, about half of the weapons in Clue have been replaced with new ones.

Having played both LOTRO and Scrabble, I’ll take Scrabble - except not vs. my husband, who is far too expert for me!

I like to play chess with the computer. When it wins, I can undo it and see how I might have avoided the loss.
It doesn’t mind. As far as I know, anyway.
