Peter’s a bit deluded here because he’s seriously overestimating how likeable he is to both team and fans alike, which in the past it’s been suggested all would rather do without him. But nonetheless, the idea itself isn’t ALL bad. That is basically how team mascots came about, isn’t it? This is just something of a more refined application of that idea.
With a bit of proper planning, you’d just need somebody who’s actually popular to pull it off with…which Peter is very much not, which is why it won’t work for him.
