Jason: Dad, they've been a lot of stories of big acts of incredible and brave heroism lately. And I know your giving blood is pretty small in comparison to a lot of what's been done. Jason: But I: think even a little heroes deserve hugs. Roger: Thanks, big guy.

Excellent choice of words, Jason. Now go donate yourself when you become of age.

I can’t find anything that says exactly how far back the daily strips are being run. The Mon-Sat strips are roughly 10 years back from their original run. Given that, I’d say this strip is probably one that Bill did to honor all those who did many things to contribute in some way to the unity and patriotism shown shortly after 9/11. I think I remember the Red Cross saying something that most people could do was to donate blood, due to the spike in hospitalizations following the attacks.

just like bowie sang, we can be heroes just for one day.

Of course, we still need those heroes today. Especially with so many of us disqualified from donating.

very refreshing-something actually of value in the strips. I’d wager it doesn’t last long

I’ve even had babies named after me when delivered outside the hospital but NOTHING beats a hug from someone who’s grateful.

This is amazingly sweet and non-cynical, except for dad holding his crisps out of reach. I think he thinks the hug is a ploy to get the crisps.

Was this whole week sponsored by Red Cross or something? We get it, Bill. Enough with the propaganda!
