MARY WORTH: Mr. Smithers should have followed a legal path (defamation of character). This way will only put him in jail. It looks like he’s been driven to drink, but he’s still wearing a suitjacket. How many dozen panels will the ’action" take, anyway?

REX MORGAN: I’m amazed: the hotel clerk actually did answer Iris’ question, “Do you think I’m a dimwit?” At least we know Iris’ relationship to the man at her horse farm. I wonder what the paper in her hand says.

    APT3G: Tommie’s eureka moment.

@brownceb: In response to your comments here on Sun. & Mon.PHANTOM ARTISTS: Current Phantom info: By DePaul (Scripts), Ryan (Daily Art) & Beatty (Sunday Art). In looking at various blogs, etc., I have come with the following history: In 2005, artist George Olesen announced his retirement and Paul Ryan was chosen to assume the artist’s role on the daily strips. When Graham Nolan, Phantom Sunday artist, announced his intended departure to work on other projects in the fall of 2006, Ryan added the Sunday strip to his duties (his first Sunday strip appeared in April 2007). Ryan stepped down from the Sunday strip in the summer of 2011, but still does the artwork for the daily strips. When Ryan stepped down from the Sunday strips, Eduardo Barreto took over in July 2011 as the Sunday artist. However, Barreto died in December 2011. The current Sunday artist is Terry Beatty. BARRETO

REX MORGAN: I can’t add anything to your comments, Arye.JUDGE PARKER: The assassin’s hand is on the “knife” (dagger?) again!MARK TRAIL: That’s a pretty good tackle…I wonder if Mark every played football.MARY WORTH: This isn’t how I had pictured Smithers. However, maybe we’re just assuming it’s Smithers – there may be other victims of Nola’s self-serving lies.APT 3-G: The Vernal Equinox. Any guesses as to how the first day of Spring has given Tommie an idea for the “perfect prescription for Nina’s health”?

Mark Trail—I didn’t think the one that Mark tackled had brought his gun when he came out of the shack.

@Florchi: Thanks for your research. The links you posted connected me with Wikipedia articles and I saw the history you referenced. The death of Barreto was very unfortunate. His panels reminded me of others who drew outside of the standard rectangles. Even Watterson did some Calvin and Hobbes Sundays like that. Again, thanks for your input to my question and to so many other comments you make here. I don’t post much, but I do enjoy the dialog that occurs here, at least most of the time.

Phantom – were the Phantom wearing a mask that fully covered his face, he may be able to speak to the boys since his voice would be somewhat muffled while still leading them to believe El Guerrero is in the room.Looking forward to reading the Phantom artist links. thanks Florchi!Alley Oop – I think I may be done with this strip. I’ll see if the next story goes anywhere.APT 3-G: Spring begins! Maybe they’ll share a walk in Central Park.
