REX MORGAN: Does June smell the bourbon in Iris’ coffecup? (Amazing how an alcoholic beverage got named after a French dynasty. What did Henri IV have to do with it? I suspect it was named after the vineyards of Bourbonais)

MARY WORTH: The couple is being married under a gazebo in a beautiful ceremony. A gazebo can be a replacement for a hupa, the marriage canopy used at Jewish weddings.

UNIT307: The usual weekend review. I don’t need the Sunday paper in New York to get my coupons – they come with the Friday morning circulars. There weren’t any coupons this week that interested me and I can say the same for Sunday’s 3G.

PRINCE VALIANT: A new episode in the making..

Apartment 3-G – So now we know two things. First, how Nina’s mother died, and second, what’s worrying Nina.Rex Morgan – @Arye, I didn’t know that about bourbon, but it does look like to me that June is deliberately sniffing the cup to see if it contains alcohol.Prince Valiant – This lady’s husband has been gone for 10 years! Why does his wife want him back? He’s too irresponsible to take care of any business.

Rex – Yes! June smells the bourbon. And “we can talk” is significant. I think she will confront her.A3G – Now we know how Nina’s mother died, which is what I suspected. My mother’s oldest sister died in childbirth in 1912 and my father’s sister died in childbirth in 1943. It’s still very common in Third World countries and happens more than it should in US.Judge – I wonder what April will say when she finds out everyone else is planning her wedding. I wonder if she has any family.Phantom – What does the trusty see? I hope Phantom is still there, too.

REX: Panel 7 is a clever way to convey much with a single “sniff.”MW: So we now have a happy ending or denouement of the Gina/Bobby story. I wonder what’s next for Mary Worth…?JP: @marvee – I agree. It seems like the bride should have some say in the wedding plans; after all, it’s not a shotgun wedding. :-) APT 3-G: I think it was less than a century ago that most childbirth moved from the home to the hospital. I know folks born in the 30s who were born at home (with a midwife). Tommie is a nurse-midwife, but a CMN (Certified Nurse Midwife) plays a somewhat different role in today’s world. MARK TRAIL: Great artwork and a good camping firewood tip (last panel).

PHANTOM: TheBoomsby Prison is in Bengalla. So where is the Bureau of Engraving and Printing referred to in panel 4? PV: Arye & david – We learn that Lady Grunyard ’s husband is a drunk and a rake who has been residing a Camelot for about 10 years…but now “his manor has need of him.” Why she now wants him back is a mystery, but this new episode may be interesting.

Prince Valiant – the closest dictionary I was able to find has many definitions of “rake” but none that define its use as an adjective here. REX MORGAN – i don’t think there’d be anything wrong with telling a house guest that she could not drink in their home. And although she told her she wished there was something she could do, providing alcohol isn’t helping if she continues and is drunk at the funeral. Phantom – “They’ll be surprised to see y….” And you’ll be surprised NOT to see him. Reminds me of the end of Lone Ranger episodes. In the vintage strip the Phantom is completing the 12 tasks and described as having THE POWER OF THE ELEPHANT, THE SPEED OF THE TIGER.

I made it to one comic shop yesterday for free comic day and they had about 2 dozen to choose from when I got there midafternoon. I got copies for myself and young neighbor friends.
