I really enjoy Francis. Thank you, Mr. Marrin. I am not Roman Catholic, but my upbringing in Episcopal churches with similar sacraments and liturgies taught appreciation of both. Since the cardinal picked up his own suitcase and insisted on riding back on the bus with those who had just elected him, I have wholeheartedly admired Pope Francis. He seems to be working to restore integrity in several areas. May he set an example to future Popes as he achieves what he can in his own lifetime.

As the saying goes, “The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.” I pray that the church as a whole responds to Pope Francis’ efforts and makes meaningful reforms – and puts them into practice. If not, I fear for the worst…

One might make a joke here about a vast influx of new souls causing Cocytus to overflow and back up all Dis with ice.

I’ve said this before. The Catholic Church is like the Titanic: it’s massive, has a lot of inertia and does not respond well to the helm. It’s going to hit a couple more icebergs on its journey.

I believe that Francis is trying to take it in the right direction, but it’s got a long way to go.

On seeing a phrase like “Hell freezes over” or “a snowball’s chance in Hell”, my 8th grade English teacher would point out that in Dante’s Inferno, the deepest part of Hell, where the worst sinners were punished, was a frozen lake.

I have followed Francis since the first day he was published. And I’m Jewish. To his creator, Patrick Marrin, keep up the fine work.
