Gabby is partly right. Most are trying to escape torture, rape or murder in their countries.

To be fair, they could also be on Nauru. Or any of a number of other hellscapes around the world.

What a great choice of background image for this offering.

The German artist Käthe Kolwitz made dozens of images of the sorrows of war, like the one above of a mother trying to shield her children. Perhaps most of her work was about that human fear for one’s endangered children and the grief of parents for lost children. She had seen two World Wars up close and lost her son to one of them. Her paintings, drawings, prints, etchings, lithographs, and sculptures return to the theme over and over.

This URL leads to an image of her memorial sculptures to her lost son…

There’s an undercurrent, perhaps an undertow, of suggestion that because these people were endangered elsewhere… or that other nations aren’t helping with the plight of refugees… or that there’s other tragedy in other parts of the world… that somehow any of that relieves this nation, our country of any moral duty to help in any way we can.

People are mistreated across town, but what does that have to do with me and the frightened child who turns up on my doorstep?

Remember who asked if he was his brother’s keeper? And the answer that echoes all through the Bible? And in every other charitable religion or philosophy or ethical system in history?

There are several ways to solve the problem.

Assassination is one. I don’t recommend it. There is no sense about making Trump the new Horst Wessel (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horst_Wessel).

Impeachment or invoking the 25th Amendment is another, but the ReTrumpliKKKans won’t convict thereby giving Trump total freedom to commit more atrocities. Both of these are one-shot propositions and as any sniper will tell you, if you can’t make the kill, don’t take the shot.

So that leaves us with door number 3: Election Day 2020.

Many people celebrate when another child dies in the Trump Camps.

    Trump Disciples are very devout.

Their Messiah is a genius. And very, very stable.
