Frazz by Jef Mallett for November 14, 2004
Transcript:
man: I wish the third-graders wouldn't play that game. Frazz: "smear the..." man: Ah! Ah! Ah! It's an offensive word! Frazz: It didn't start out as offensive. It was made offensive. And now it's losing its edge. man: You don't find it offensive? Frazz: Certain attitudes are offensive, words are just collections of vowels and consonants. man: You're fudging. You know as well as I do the power of language. Frazz: Including the power to amuse. I posit the kids see an amusing rhyme and little else. man: You don't think the game encourages violence towar a certain group? Frazz: Sure it does. man: All right, then. Frazz: Other third-graders. But then, an open field and a ball encourage that.

I had to make 3 google searches. Why wouldn’t anyone put up, “Smear the Queer”? Now no one has to google it unless I get canceled! Even the gay community uses that word, so what’s the big deal?

I love how naturally the kids are shown to include all of them into the group. Even the guy using a wheelchair is in the midst of the romp. Jef was woke before that word replaced good guy.
