Whipple didn’t invent Charmin; he was a character in the TP ads who had an unexplained (possibly unexplainable) fixation on making sure people did not squeeze the packages. I believe Dave Barry once did a reader’s survey of what commercials were the most hated, and the Mr. Whipple was the clear winner.
