The film “I am Legend” was rubbish, in part, because the ending was completely different from the book. The book was—and still is—a classic because of the ending.

How about “Dune”? “Lord of the Rings”? “The Hobbit”? The animated “Hunchback of Notre Dame”? “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”?) (Okay, LOTR and Hobbit weren’t exactly rubbish, but you know what I mean.) I’ve never understood why Hollywood looks at a book, decides it would be a good movie, and then makes a film of a similar, but clearly inferior, story. The list of offenders is unfortunately extremely long.

I prefer “Fritz the Cat”. But that movie is not based on a book if you don’t count the adult comics as one.
