Frazz by Jef Mallett for May 31, 2008
Transcript:
Caulfield: "My Country 'Tis of Thee" is just a rehashed "God Save the Queen." "The Star-Spangled Banner" is an English drinking song! do we steal all our tunes from the British? Frazz: I think we learned our lesson when Vanilla Ice samples Queen and Bowie. Miss Plainwell: I sure hope we learned something.
If I recall correctly, he didn’t actually sample Queen, but just stole the distinctive bass line (and maybe other stuff too; been a long time since I heard him, thank goodness) from “Under Pressure”. The reason I think that is because I remember seeing someone interviewing him, and him defending his ripoff by saying that Queen’s bassline and his were totally different.
