Mr. Burke: See you tomorrow. Boy: What?! No homework tonight? Mr. Burke: Nope. Your evening is wide open. Boy: Please Mr. Burke: Trey isn't usually so eager to study. Frazz: Trey's sister doesn't usually have a piano recital.
I finally figured out…after a LOT of time in music, etc…that ‘music lessons’ and daily practice were a GREAT way for parents to know where their kids were…
I took years of piano lessons as a kid. Finally in my late teens, I realized I was one that could play the notes, but not the music, and quit the lessons, to the great disappointment of my mother. Those years did give me an appreciation of music, and I love listening to good piano music today. But I had to come to the point where I realized I just didn’t have the talent.
I am the daughter of a pianist and an organist. I took piano from age 5-12 and heard classical music at home all my growing life. Like kroykali, I never felt the music. However, learning to read music and hear music helped me with all other studies, and definitely in my theater and dance. And I now have a son who is a professional bassist.
A friend of mine has a saying about school kids: Band kids are good kids…He’s right. I should have been a band kid…But, I taught myself guitar in college….
When I was young, I played flute. My mom scrimped to get me private lessons. My teacher was convinced that I had the talent to be GREAT (and she was no slouch herself), but I had no interest in practicing. Therefore, I am now NOT a famous flutist.

It’s nice to know the name of one of the other kids….Who else has names besides Caufiled and Trey and the school staff?
