And again, some of you manage to turn a harmless comic into a political rant. It WASN’T EVEN about the Nobel Peace prize!

I wonder what it is with US citizens that makes them want to drag politics into everything… on the other hand, why do I even bother?

I just thought it nice how Caulfield came right back with “Genius.”

The MacArthur’s are often referred to as the “Genius Awards”

so, mlk jr’s nobel is meaningless? einstein’s nobel is meaningless? or, gb shaw, sinclair lewis, thomas mann’s nobels are meaningless? faulkner, hemingway, camus, pasternak, steinbeck, sartre, unicef, red cross, docs without borders, nobels are meaningless? and, even crick, watson, wilkins’s discovery of the dna is meaningless?

Debt Free, ExoticDoc, Nabuquduriuzhur, and others of like “minds”: The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded by the Norwegian Storting (parliament). The other five Nobels are awarded by the Swedish academies. What does the judgement of the Norwegian politicians have to do with the judgement of the Swedish academics? Or is this just another example of people spouting off about something they have no understanding of?

peterhuppertz: It is because Fox is incapable of discussing scientific or artistic achievements, and so their worshipers know no other subject than Reich-wing politics.

How about the medics who took a girl shot in the head and managed to keep her alive, and repair her, into shape to give rousing public speeches in multiple languages? Now there is an achievement.

Ewal, for the most part you speak the sad truth. However, some of us do take the effort to do our “homework” before casting a vote. But, for reasons you mentioned, we find ourselves in the minority. And that’s the saddest part of all.

Why are you talking about the Nobel Peace Prize? The comic strip is obviously about the Nobel Prize for Literature, compared to the Pulitzer and the Macarthur Fellowships.

I used to think I would love to win a Grammy, but they really became meaningless, in that it has little to do with musical quality and much more to do with sales and being the “flavor of the month”. (Much like induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.)
