Deer have their own weapons. They just don’t consider us “appropriate” targets.

Not much of a sport. Deer don’t have fingers to hold the rifle or pull the trigger.

Not to belabor a point, but I don’t consider deer hunting a sport. It’s more a time for me to sit for hours in the great outdoors, enjoy the beauty, think & pray, and if I’m lucky, MAYBE supply some food for my family.

I consider myself a sportsman. OTOH, there are others who are out there to drink as much as possible and blast the daylights out of everything they can.

Saw a video of a mountain lion. He was probably confused why that deer didn’t run. Big buck. He ended up pinned to the earth with that big rack.

Deer are such a hazard. They should be corraled and harvested. I wonder how hard it would be to trap them that way?

What did the doe say when she came out of the woods?

I won’t do that for two bucks again.

Bravo Jef! A wonderful comic featuring an homage to hunting season that is both funny and respectful (and not the typical “I’m not a hunter, so I am against it.” sort of character). Very clever and very well done! As for me, I am a hunter….. in a very vague fashion…. I am an adequate marksman, I own one hunting rifle (inherited), I have gone to many deer camps over the years, like Stratmanron also said, I like to sit out in a field or blind or tree stand with my hunting rifle and in reality sit for hours in the great outdoors, enjoy the beauty, think & contemplate. It is a peaceful time, and I enjoy the ties to the history of hunting and hunting camp, as well as the camaraderie. The additional reality is that I really am not fond of venison, so I would not shoot a deer. But being part of the experience, and also the sitting around at deer camp, playing poker and drinking a bit are all a part of the ritual and fun that I greatly look forward to each year.

Those black and white spotted, 2 point deer make for the best eating.

A few years back a buck charged my friend’s car, the antlers destroyed the headlights and his head crushed the grill and and damaged the radiator. Imagine if the car was moving.

I don’t hunt, but that’s because I’d faint seeing the blood. I have no problem eating animals, or with others hunting. My husband just hit a deer last week with our minivan. Now we need to fix it. Deer kill a lot of humans on the road, and so it is necessary to reduce their population to prevent human deaths. Also, if the deer population is too high, they suffer trying to find enough food & water.

Good comic, we need more hunters to thin out the herds.

Hunting isn’t a sport. It’s a skill. One that was vital to our survival until the industrial age figured out how to mass produce animal slaughter and preperation.

Cities with deer problems could license hunters armed with tranquilizer rifles to harvest deer. The deer could provide food for the homeless and selling any left over would add to the city coffers. The program would provide jobs for hunters, butchers, frozen food locker operators, truck drivers and administrative staff. The trank darts don’t over penetrate or ricochet so it’s a safe way to control deer population.
