Are you taking Fred for his walk, dear? No- I'm just about to watch the football! But it's only the highlights. You watched the whole match this afternoon! And?! But Fred's been in all day! Oh, very well! Come on then- but let's make it snappy! This isn't going to be much fun!

My husband didn’t like to do things for his dog either. He got her to go jogging with him. That lasted about 6 months. After that he just let her out to run around the neighborhood. Only gave her a bath about 3 times in the 15 years we had her. I did it. Never trimmed her nails. I did it. Didn’t like taking her to the vet. I did it. Meanwhile, I took care of my 4 dogs. They were never allowed to run around the neighborhood. I put them on leads and walked them out to the fenced-in dog area. Some peoplel just shouldn’t own a dog.

@Chickweed Fan……..sounds like you got a better deal with your dogs than you did with your husband…..my sympathy.

Yes. Fred is smart and he can control the length of the walk.

Maybe after a short walk outside he will be in a better mood, and finally realize all he had been missing out on. Then once that happened, he would have a new found appreciation for his family, canine and otherwise. IMO, he needs to go out just as much as Fred does, obviously for different reasons though.

Walking your dog gives you a chance to simply be with him (or her).
