    StalaCtites from Ceiling StalAGmites from ground. Learned that 53 years ago this is the first time I had to use it.

    I learned an easy way to remember them as a kid. StalaGmites have a G for ground, StalaCtites have a C for ceiling.

    I learned it as "stalagtites hold TIGHT to the ceiling, stalagmites MIGHT grow to the ceiling. It worked for me!

    briatollah: And it wasn’t at the corral either, but the vacant lot next to C.S. Fly’s Photographic Studio. But that didn’t sound “Wild West” enough, so they “moved” it a half block away. Fly was also an early photojournalist – and with glass plate negatives in the wilderness!
