The first rule of Ostrich Secret Society is: you do not turn up in Ostrich Secret Society. The second rule of Fight Club is: you DO NOT turn up in Ostrich Secret Society! Third rule of Ostrich Secret Society: someone yells “watch!”, looks up, peeks out, the friendship’s over…
But, if they start with a pledge, & if each of them has to recite it, then the others would have to say that while they saw no one at any meeting, they did hear someone speak. They might even be asked to identify the speaker by the sound of their voice.
Ostriches do not bury their heads in the sand to avoid predators, contrary to popular belief. This is a myth, and if an ostrich buried its head in the sand, it would soon die of asphyxiation. Ostriches stick their heads in the ground to dig a shallow hole, where they can subsequently make their nests. The phrase “bury one’s head in the sand” refers to the common but mistaken belief that ostriches bury their heads in the sand when frightened, so as to avoid being seen.
