I use the apps WeQ4U. If you get into a call waiting situation, dial #9 and they’ll queue for you instead. Once it gets through, they call you back and get back into the call. You need to have your phone with you of course or you’ll miss the call back. Saved me many minutes queuing online.
For a brief time the government of Canada would ask if you wanted a call back instead of holding. EVERYONE wanted that cause you could go and live your life and answer when they called. It ended after a few months because the people were too happy.
I called our phone company many years ago about a serious problem, got connected to someone in India. While trying to explain the issue, you could hear loud laughter and what sounded like a wild party in the background. The guy said a quick response which had nothing to do with the problem and he then hung up. I eventually got it resolved with someone else, and promptly changed companies shortly thereafter.

Why is there always an ‘expected high numbers of callers’? Sounds like poor planning on their part.

If they use “X”, they should be ex-employees.
