When I coached my niece’s softball team I told the parents I expected their kids to, “show up for practice, play hard, play clean and play fair and let kids be kids.” If the kid showed up to practice, she played in the next game. If a kid didn’t show up, depending on the reason, chances were she wouldn’t.
Had one guy who felt his daughter should play the whole game (she was a good player) but not have to show to practice, in spit of other parents offering to pick her up if necessary. She played, but not as long or often as he demanded. I wouldn’t change my policy so he filed a grievance with the organization complaining. My decision was upheld and he wanted to move his daughter to another team. None of the other coaches wanted her because he was such a pain in the neck.
The next year he wanted to enroll to be a coach and the organization let him. He played his daughter every game, all game. He was eventually kicked out of the organization after a bad loss to an opposing coach after which he punched that coach because the game was mercy ruled.
