Garfield is actually not the best example of this phenomenon.Garfield’s is constantly funny.The sin of most repetitious strips(ie Hi and Lois) is that they are neither fun nor funny.In the Depression newspapers published ‘more’ comic strips to sell papers.In order to compete,they had to give people more bang for their buck.Today’s publishers are not so wise.Less is more…why am I buying their paper,now?For the answer for most people,the answer is:”I’m not.”Major newspapers should have three pages of comics…hey.what about more real reporting…not less!More,bleeep it.If corporations can give us eight pound cheesburgers for ninety nine cents…can’t we getmore comics in the freakin’ newspaper?!?
