Stay on the line, sir. Do you see any devil-dolls emerging from your wainscoting? We have an emergency carpentry team on alert: give me your address and they’ll be on the way now! Don’t panic!
I remember a short story called “And Out From the Woodwork They Come”. I can’t find any reference to it now, so maybe I misremembered the title. It was in Analog or Galaxy or F&SF or something. It may even have predated widespread application of 9-1-1 for emergencies. Is Teresa Back Yet?
I was seven when this episode was broadcast; and I watched every one of the original run. There was even an episode I had to watch through the dining room mirror because I was sequestered in the kitchen for refusing to eat my stewed turnips :::::: blech! ::::: </b>
