This tax reasoned that payment was made of half all earned income to the domestic partner, and required tax to be paid on that income, as well as all other taxes, such as social security, medicare, etc., etc..
This was, effectively, the end of domestic partnerships and the institution of marriage, long held by many to be an unjust and inequitable form of slavery, anyway.
Altwin turned and exited quickly, in his wake a sussuration of sound that resembled somebody saying, “pediatrician” lingered for a moment.
Ferrins allowed a brief smile to grace his face.
He was aware of his nickname, “The Pediatrician”, among the lower ranks. He knew that it came from the fact that he had little patience, a pun he found wryly amusing, and which gave him some hope for the wits of his underlings.
What he did not know was that this sobriquet had been placed upon him by his superiors, who considered him, and I quote, “a man to whom one does not bring adult concerns”.
It was just as well that he labored under a false premise and did not appreciate the true nature of his reputation, which was that of a person who would butcher any actual responsibilities placed upon him rather than executing them faithfully as designed.
