I could see Kelly’s eyes beginning to glaze over when Flipper suddenly ended his gushing about his glorious future with, “But why am I telling you all of this? I just though you deserved to know, even if you won’t be here to see it! And don’t worry. That rug is specially made and works well as a tarp for inadvertent spills.” And then he started shooting. I felt myself take a hit in the chest, and me without body armor. But as long as I was still standing, I figured I might as well return the favor. He’d put a round into Kelly before I started his ventilation, which seemed effective. He fired twice more, both shots going wild, before he collapsed. I knew I was hit, but I was still standing. So was Kelly. It didn’t add up. He’d hit us from less than twelve feet away, practically point blank. I said as much, loudly and with much cursing. Not that I minded not being dead already. Nerves, mostly.

Curious, isn’t it, that what the Upside-down Girl in Pink says might as well have been said by the blackbird, had it dropped her? Be that as it may, I see no dolly on the grounds approaching yon castle, so I say, ensconce her! Ensconce her well, before doing any aerial dolly-reconnaissance. Only then can we devote precious Froglandian resources to searching for dolly-Countess Seraphina. And that’s the Pretty Little Dolly-truth, so help me Mona Abboud!
